TREND ALERT: SOCKS & HEELS

Have you tried socks with heels yet?  I’m starting to admire this look as I see more & more from fashion spreads and runway shows.  Apparently wearing shoes preferably heels with sock is the new trend . We first saw this trend on the runways last year when designers sent down their models decked out in fabulous shoes paired up with socks. It seems like  just a matter of time before  fashionistas start warming up to this trend. Will I be trying it?  you bet I will ( I am good at trying new trends).  Would you try it? Well If you gonna do it here a few  things to keep in mind; Go for neutral tone similar to your shoes (pictured right). Thin fabrics work better, try sheer or opaque (pictured left). Avoid..anything too girlie (ruffles). They look great when teamed up with sandal heels.

LACE FRONT DIVAS

Long, luxurious celebrity hair that bounces like Beyonce’s, moves like Mary’s and twirls like Tyra’s is NOT CHEAP!! A custom-made lace front with the most expensive hair (Remy Indian) can cost upward of $16,000 according to Seheil Stotts, celebrity hairstylist. However a good lace front can be purchased anywhere from $850 and up…  And, of course, there are your cheap imitations with poor quality hair that can be purchased for just a few hundred dollars..uh huh…there are some girlfriends walking around with those kind– looking very “Wiggie” and fake (we all have seen them, YIKES!) This fad started with transvestite RuPaul almost a decade ago but within the last five years, many black celebrities, from Halle Berry to Vivica Fox, began wearing these wigs. In essence, lace fronts are wigs that have a small piece of lace mesh attached to the front which you attach to your head (by using hair glue), giving the illusion of a seamless hairline. If one is custom-made, human hair is individually pulled through the lace, for an even more realistic look. “Lace fronts were first developed for cancer patients and balding women,” explains Diane DaCosta, 15-year veteran of hair design and author of ‘Textured Tresses however this “miracle product” gives black women & white men ( in the case of John Travolta pictured left) what society tells them and what many now believe is perfect hair. Shout out to my cuz Jay pictured below for being a true lace front DIVA!!

THE MAKE-UP BULLETIN

The catwalks were awash with fresh-faced, natural, pretty looks with bursts of color and a soft fairytale finish to them. This season colorful eyes are back but with a new-found sophistication as opposed to last season. Gone are the days for neon bright of the ‘80s trend and in its place are an array of pastels as seen on the Nicole Farhi and Dior shows. Complexions are fresh with a flawless finish; whatever foundation you wear make sure it’s light and natural this season.

TRIBAL CHIC

Along with the feminine ruffles, pretty pastels and Peek-A-Boo dresses the concept of Tribal Chic is everywhere for spring/summer 2010. Tribal prints are designs that are earthy, and feature geometric shapes that really make an outfit. They can be worn in the form of skirts, to shoes or even jewelry for an instant tribal appeal. You can also wear them in the form of dresses and tops for a classic tribal essence. Designers such as Gucci, Diane Von Furstenberg and Dries Van Noten have featured exotic African inspired pieces as part of their runway collections. This print is undoubtedly among one of the top must haves for this season.

UP CLOSE & PERSONAL WITH SARAH JESSICA PARKER

Elle’s fabulous creative director Joe Zee sits down with SJP to discuss  her fragrance (which smells really wonderful BTW), but also her beauty routine (au naturale) and Twitter (she thinks it’s changing people’s attention spans). After watching this interview with SJP, I realized that she is just a normal woman (really down to earth), not some otherworldly fashion faun. I love SATC and I love her as Carrie but knowing that she’s who she is day-to-day makes me love the series and all its blockbuster glory, even more 😉 SATC 2 is out on May 28th in the UK / May 27th in Canada & USA ,  can’t wait to see it!

BODIES

Well the onesie is definitely our ultimate recession must-have. A two-in-one twist on the traditional tank, the bodysuit continues making its way back on the scene as a sexy alternative to everything from lingerie to loungewear to a body-skimming blouse. We’re actually partial to wearing one off the beach, under some high-waisted jeans or with a pretty bubble skirt. Part top, part tease, the one-piece bodies are the total package!

THE STRAW FEDORA

With summer just around the corner, ladies it’s time to get your hat game on point. Summer hats are both practical and stylish. We often see models and socialites flaunting new range of summer hats in parties however with the hat trends changing every year the one hat which is the undisputed leader are the straw fedoras. (My personal fav!) This Hat can be worn with everything from destroyed denim & a tank to a ruffled bikini. Shout out to my girl Adee (pictured above) & Desire for being true stylistas.  Pictured below (from left to right) is Beyonce, Eva L & RiRi rocking this trend. It is a summer accessory that a true fashionista must have ;-D
